North by Northwest

Dec 28, 2009

Last week we moved from sunny/smoggy Los Angeles to Silicon Valley - Santa Clara, CA, specifically.

We are now a short drive from Apple, Adobe, Google, eBay, Netflix and good old PARC. Seems like a reasonable place for a web developer to be.

Updates, Shmupdates

Dec 08, 2009

I am wearing my lack of updates as a badge of honor. I have been crazy-busy the last few months and I haven't had time to do anything for myself. If you get a login you will see a few new projects in my expanded portfolio including a site for an artist that recently spent a couple of weeks on top of the Billboard charts.

Vandelay!

Jun 23, 2009

Found out that megperotti.com was featured in Vandelay Design's 25 of the Best Photographer Portfolio Websites - Part Two. Looks like I am in good company. Thanks Vandelay!

Nighttime is the "Right Time"

Jun 06, 2009

Not sure why but I decided to set up my site so that it will be dark in the hours I am typically away from the computer; after 7pm and before 7am Pacific Time.

Charitable Programming

Jun 03, 2009

Last weekend I participated in a charitable venture called change up where I worked with a team to create a website for Aids Project Los Angeles. We really worked hard but it was worth the effort.

Continuing with the giving... I made an update to NewsTweet which includes some often-requested features and addresses some sloppiness which crept into v1.

Select up to 10 results, customize the title, use the big old textarea to use multiple terms... You guys send me lots of emails with ideas and I will try to implement then as often as possible.

Nationwide iPhone App

May 17, 2009

Saw a commercial today for a new app from Nationwide Insurance. It contains everything you need in case you have an accident - take and store photos, ma the exact location, exchange information with the other party, report the accident.... If I didn't like Dennis Haysbert so much I would consider switching.

In other news, I am getting the ball rolling on a few new projects. A cool web-app, a couple of complete sites (design and programming), and some programming.

Back in the USA

May 04, 2009

Just got back from vacation in London and Ireland and I am getting a bunch of new projects started. Looks like I might be building a project using Ruby on Rails... that is a first.

March Madness

Mar 20, 2009

A little while ago, I was approached by buzztap.com to redesign their site. They had a very clean, stark design going but needed someone to step it up a notch. This week they did a soft launch of the new design. Check it out.

NewsTweet is still blazing. I've been getting a lot of good feedback from people and one of these days I hope to be able to release a little update.

I'm Gonna Ask You a Few Questions...

Jan 22, 2009

Luc at SWD sent me some questions to answer for his interview series. Read it and you may learn something about me. One thing I learned is that I tend to answer email questions in the same rhythm and cadence as Ralphie writes themes. Check it out and leave me some comments so I look cool.

Plugin Play

Jan 19, 2009

Got my first Wordpress Plugin added to the official WordPress Plugin repository. Check out NewsTweet here.

Free Plugin for WordPress

Jan 16, 2009

Last weekend my brother and I tinkered around with the Twitter search API and made a cool project. I figured it was just the sort of thing that WordPress users might like so I made it into a sidebar plugin. It's called NewsTweet and it uses ajax to get tweets about any given subject. You set the search term and sit back while the content comes floating in. Check it out here and download it if you like.

I Design Things Too

Dec 20, 2008

As I mentioned in an early post, I am spending most of my time either writing PHP or CSS so my design portfolio has been trailing off. It would look odd to have a portfolio full of screen shots of code. Some months back I designed a site for Sugarland (the country duo) and it finally went live. This was all done under the direction of Clear and the bulk of the coding was done by the guys at Universal Music. Why do I mention this? One, because the guys at Clear are good dudes and they bring me in on great projects. For that they deserve a nod. Two, because the live site was tweaked and coded by UMG and it doesn't look exactly like the static files I passed over to them. I did like the design though and I was proud to work for such an amazingly successful band.

Take It to the Back

Dec 08, 2008

Been spending quite a lot of time on the back-end of things lately. The good side is that I am becoming a real whiz with PHP and mySQL. The bad side is that I really can't add some cool code to my portfolio. Last week I spent a couple of monstrous days coding up some AJAX and PHP for John Mayer. Turning the fine design work of Steve and Garth at Clear into a slick one-pager. Check it out here. I've also been handling a lot of coding for the country's thirtieth largest church.

Geraldo presents, "The Mystery of CSS Vault"

Nov 03, 2008

CSS Vault has added my portfolio site to their gallery. Not sure how that happened but it is appreciated.

Futura is History

Oct 13, 2008

Today I read that Best Buy is launching a new identity. I don't much into the logo business but the spacing between Best Buy's "U" and "Y" goes right up there in the kerning Hall of Shame. Read the article.

Also today,Google alerted me that I am shaping young minds.

I am working on a lot of projects at the moment but I don't know if anything is going to make it into the portfolio anytime soon.

The White and Grey Market

Oct 08, 2008

Looks like I missed this... Last month Vandelay Design included me in Part 4 of their series "25 Beautiful Minimalistic Website Designs". Thanks for the nod... I am glad to know that all of the grey and white I have been using lately hasn't gone unnoticed. Check it out.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Brett Dennen.

Sep 17, 2008

Just launched Brett Dennen's new site. Designed by the dudes at Clear and programmed using the WordPress CMS. This was my first time really getting down and dirty with WordPress and I have to say it has some redeemable qualities.

Hope You're Proud, Nancy Reagan

Aug 28, 2008

Launched winthewarondrugs.com last night. This is a site designed by Clear which I helped to construct. Users are losers.... remember that.

Its a site!

Aug 21, 2008

After a long gestation period, this evening Schok Creative and I brought into the world wide web a handsome site for Charity Motors.

Stacks of Work

Aug 05, 2008

Seems like I haven't gotten anything launched in a while. I have 4 or 5 sites that are 90%-99% finished and stalled for one reason or another. One of these days the will go online. Coincidentally, they are almost all super-clean, white sites.

Another Treehouse Feature

Jul 23, 2008

Looks like the Treehouse site was featured on Screenfluent a little while back.

One Page Love

Jul 17, 2008

Vineyard Haven Retreat was added to One Page Love today. It joins its brethren Harbour Island Treehouse which was featured last month.

Another Launch

Jul 16, 2008

Launched another microsite this morning. This one is for Vineyard Haven Retreat, a rental home on Martha's Vineyard.

Featured on Design:Related

Jul 15, 2008

Woke up this morning to find that I am featured on Design:Related. I guess it pays to update your portfolio once in a while.

Checking Things Off the List

Jul 14, 2008

Starting to check things off the list before vacation. Got Trail Ridge Homes up and running this morning. Lots more to come in the next couple of weeks hopefully.

Working For The Weekend

Jul 11, 2008

I mean, working on the weekend. Trying to get ahead little bit so I can leave my computer at home when we go to Hawai'i in a couple of weeks. Ahhh... Hawai'i. Thanks to CSS Mania, Most Inspired, CSS Remix and CSS Based for featuring my new site.

Redesign Launched

Jul 07, 2008

I designed a new look for my site a few months back and have been too busy too implement it. Finally, over the holiday weekend, I managed to get er dun.
